India vs England 1st T20I
Smriti Mandhana produced an outstanding T20I century as India rolled to an emphatic 97-run win against England at Trent Bridge in their five-match series opener.
India were in complete control throughout, bowling and fielding with maturity that far outshone West Indies defeat at home last month.
England’s batting was in disarray, as their inability to adapt to India’s combination of spin and pace became clear.
Nat Sciver-Brunt’s 66 off 48 balls was no consolation as debutant spinner Shree Charani (4 for 12) claimed three wickets in her opening over to reduce England to 113 at stumps.
Even after losing both Mandhana and Pratika Rawal early, Indian openers remained composed, rotating strike effectively and hitting boundaries regularly.
Jemima Rodrigues and Harleen Deol then forged an incredible 95-run partnership in under seven overs; Deol’s fearless lofted drives helped increase run rates significantly.
After both openers fell, the pace of the innings gradually faded but was held together by a resilient middle order, including Jacqueline Wilson who made one run before succumbing to spinners from Charani for two ducks in two balls and Sciver-Brunt shortly afterward.
Unfortunately, though, spinners’ introduction into the eighth over caused another collapse with Jacqueline Wilson leaving after just two balls batting with Charani for her second ball duck and Sciver-Brunt soon following.
Deol was the final wicket to fall, holed out at long-off off Ghosh. But India had done enough to secure an emphatic win thanks to some brilliant fielding from Richa Ghosh behind the stumps; her diving catch to take away one ball off Sophia Dunkley’s bat during the opening over was proof enough of how valuable her contributions can be.
Now that the series is tied at 1-1, both teams will look to avoid any further slip-ups and give an excellent account of themselves in their remaining two matches – the second T20I takes place at Bristol on Tuesday and Edgbaston hosts its finale match on Wednesday.
India vs England 2nd T20I
India women’s team produced another stunning performance to secure a decisive 2-0 win against England Women at Bristol County Ground.
Opting to bat first, India suffered three quick wickets before Jemimah Rodrigues and Amanjot Kaur put on an amazing partnership of 181/4.
England were reduced to 157/7 while Indian bowling proved effective; Richa Ghosh also came up with some crucial cameo appearances to seal this match-up for India.
Smriti Mandhana suffered her first blow when Lauren Bell picked up the catch at mid-on. England soon slipped further as they went from run-a-ball 13 to 31/3 in one over, although Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones put together an outstanding 70-run partnership that briefly revived their innings before both being dismissed shortly thereafter by Shree Charani’s return of Alice Capsey and Jones to dampen momentum for England and prevent any recovery efforts.
Amanjot Kaur was named Player of the Match after scoring her maiden half-century and bowling brilliantly. She praised teamwork for the victory, not knowing how her return from injury would pan out but happy to contribute her skills with both bat and ball.
Join us at Kennington Oval on Friday (4th July) for the third and final game in this exciting series – we promise more live action and excitement awaits us there. Until then, take care and Cheers!
India vs England 3rd T20I
As the series stands at 2-2, a decisive match will take place at Old Trafford on Wednesday, June 9 at 11 pm IST (5.30 pm GMT). Kickoff for this match will begin at 11 pm.
England began the match strongly, dominating early exchanges and appearing to be on their way to amass a large total.
But then India’s bowlers came into play; Sophia Dunkley and Danni Wyatt-Hodge established an opening partnership of 137 runs within 92 balls; however this soon collapsed following some poor decisions and effective bowling by India.
India’s spinners then took control after both batsmen were out. Deepti Sharma’s leg break and Arundhati Reddy’s slow balls helped reduce England’s run-rate while depriving their batters any timing advantage. Harmanpreet Kaur then provided relief as she hit two sixes and four fours during her 28-ball innings to revive India’s innings.
India had just 12 to win from the final over and it appeared that they would easily prevail. But Lauren Bell bowled a slower ball that Harmanpreet chipped to Sophie Ecclestone at mid-off, giving India an unlikely morale-boosting victory and keeping the series alive.
Tammy Beaumont, captain of England Women, described their performance as an important milestone. They had to overcome an unfavorable start and push themselves when necessary – something she praised the efforts of young players greatly for.
After the match, fans enthusiastically applauded India’s Women’s Cricket team. The atmosphere was filled with anticipation as both teams prepared to face each other for their final T20 match of the series.
India defeated England for the first time ever in such a multi-match T20 series and it proved hugely significant for Women’s cricket team of India as it provided confidence-boosting motivation ahead of World Cup 2019. India will surely prove itself once more on this battlefield!
India vs England 4th T20I
India have secured an unassailable 3-1 lead in their five-match T20I series against England thanks to an emphatic six-wicket win at Old Trafford.
Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues shared an exceptional 48-run partnership to put their side ahead, although Kaur was eventually dismissed with only 10 needed; Rodrigues held her nerve and saw them home comfortably; this marks India’s maiden T20I win against them!
England elected to bat first after winning the toss, opening with Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Sophia Dunkley who got off to a strong start, only for them to falter during middle overs when dot balls forced England behind, always 20-30 runs short despite brief effort from Beaumont and Capsey in closing overs to reach only 155/6 total.
India dominated the second game at Bristol with their bowlers’ accuracy and discipline, making life difficult for England batsmen. Indian spinners kept them under constant control by picking wickets regularly;
Their excellent 97-run victory at Trent Bridge and 24-run triumph at Bristol gave England hope they could salvage this series victory before their narrow five-run triumph at The Oval gave India some respite in terms of scoring runs against them.
Shree Charani’s brilliant bowling reduced England to 57/2 after nine overs, but Tammy Beaumont and Alice Capsey responded by sharing an outstanding partnership of 35. However, Dunkley was dismissed for 22 runs off 19 balls by Deepti Sharma which dealt a severe blow.
Amanjot Kaur was the last batswoman to come out, but she was caught behind for two-ball duck and the visitors quickly secured victory in a comfortable fashion.
The series will now move onto Edgbaston for Saturday’s final match and broadcast live via SonyLIV app and website in India as well as Fancode platform; broadcasters in other countries are yet to announce plans for coverage; India Cricket Board are working towards making matches available on OTT platforms as well.
