SRH vs LSG
After an extended absence, Hyderabad-based franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are back on track, playing six home matches at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Starting their campaign off by beating Rajasthan Royals 3-0, SRH are seeking more victories to finish in the top four of their respective league.
Pat Cummins leads LSG with just two wickets away from becoming the fastest to 50 IPL wickets and is considered one of the world’s premier T20 bowlers, boasting an impressive six-wicket win against them last season.
Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head have been outstanding this season for Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH). Together they have formed an unbreakable partnership at the top of the order and been essential components for SRH this season. Furthermore, Henrich Klaasen and Kamindu Mendis provide solid middle order support.
LSG took control early, with Marsh and Pooran quickly setting a brilliant partnership, amassing 116 runs off just 43 balls together before both were dismissed by Cummins shortly thereafter.
But LSG were always going to win; Marsh’s quickfire partnership was the difference maker.
The rest of the batting unit struggled to keep pace and all out for an underwhelming total despite Ishan Kishan’s breezy cameo and Henrich Klassen’s solid contributions; their target proved too small.
2025 IPL
The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) was India’s 18th T20 cricket tournament and began on March 22. However, due to rising cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, due to which it had to be suspended on May 9. Resumption took place on May 17 with playoffs beginning May 30.
Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans will compete for the championship title this year.
The playoffs will consist of two Qualifier matches followed by a final. On Thursday, May 29 in Mullanpur between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru this match will start at 7:30 PM IST and qualify the winner to advance.
On Friday, May 30 in Ahmedabad between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans will take place an Eliminator match that starts at 7:30 PM IST; should one team emerge victorious it will move onto Qualifier 2; otherwise it will meet Delhi Capitals for a dead rubber final on June 3rd.
Wiaan Mulder joined Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to replace injured Englishman Brydon Carse early in the season; Karim Janat made his debut for Gujarat Titans against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 27; while Delhi Capitals signed spinner Yuzvendra Chahal as a replacement for Corey Anderson.
IPL 2025 will see both SRH and LSG reach several important milestones. Ravi Bishnoi is two wickets away from 50 IPL wickets; Nicholas Pooran needs 12 sixes for 100 sixes; while David Miller still needs 40 runs to hit 1000 IPL runs with LSG.
Both teams boast impressive head-to-head records against one another, with SRH claiming four of the five matches played.
Furthermore, these sides have met in three IPL finals together and won each time. Therefore, this match should provide an important indicator as to where each side stands in their bid for glory in this year’s edition of the tournament.
Match Summary
LSG made an aggressive start in their innings, with Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram adding 115 in 10 overs – but SRH bowlers managed to restrict them to only 205; an insufficient total.
Abhishek Sharma then hit six sixes during his 20-ball 59 that helped turn the tide of battle, with Ishan Kishan, Heinrich Klaasen and Kamindu Mendis all scoring over 30 before reaching their target with just 10 balls remaining; not only did this win increase SRH’s net run rate but it put them ahead of LSG while their playoff hopes had effectively ended as well.
The match marked an exciting conclusion to an intriguing season in which both sides demonstrated that they can compete against the best.
Minute differences can make an enormous impact in final standings. SRH can take great confidence from their performance; LSG should use this match as an opportunity to develop consistency for future playoff runs.
On May 19 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Sunrisers Hyderabad won by five wickets to capture their second victory of the season and move into sixth place overall on the IPL table, overtaking seventh-place LSG by several points.
Both teams still need work on areas such as close chase completion and death-over bowling issues; if these issues can be tackled efficiently then both should have a chance to compete for top four spots next season.
