KKR vs MI
KKR and MI have developed an intriguing rivalry during the Indian Premier League. Both sides have met in some memorable matches that provided fans with plenty of thrills – whether an exciting last-ball finish or unexpected impactful innings by an unlikely hero, these battles have given fans plenty to look forward to.
KKR have won 11 out of their 35 matches against MI, yet MI still hold an edge overall. Yet Kolkata can surprise with powerful batting and effective bowling combinations like Andre Russell and Sunil Narine’s spin bowling; both possess the potential to thwart MI’s batsmen and provide their team with an opportunity to take down big wins.
Match 1
The Mumbai Indians are a professional Twenty20 cricket team based out of Mumbai, India. A member of the Indian Premier League franchise system and currently competing in both tournaments (IPL & CL T20), their motto is “Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo” (Perform, Fight, Win).
This franchise has won three IPL titles and boasts a strong squad this season, having made key additions such as Jos Buttler, Tim Southee and Krunal Pandya.
If they win this match they will tie CSK for the most wins against RCB ever in IPL history, while losing would mark their inaugural loss of this season – so stay tuned to NDTV Sports for live coverage of both matches!
Match 2
Mumbai: Kolkata Knight Riders continued their winning run by outclassing five-time winners Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium.
Their batsmen made too many reckless shots on a slow surface, leading to them being bowled out for just 169 despite Venkatesh Iyer’s 70-ball effort.
MI’s hopes lay with Suryakumar who batted magnificently for 56 off 35 balls until being run out by Andre Russell while trying to protect his wicket from Sunil Narine (3/30) and Jasprit Bumrah who claimed three wickets within an over at the death.
Match 4
Mumbai Indians continue their dominance of Kolkata Knight Riders in this rivalry with an exciting four-wicket win at Wankhede Stadium.
Chasing 179 runs, MI lost wickets regularly but Hardik Pandya (23/31, 4×4, 2×6) and Nitish Rana’s 81-run partnership put MI back on course; once Trent Boult and Ankit Rajpoot’s pacers allowed 19 runs each in the 17th and 18th over respectively, Rana reached his target with just one ball to spare; his well-paced innings produced 6 boundaries and two overboundaries!
Match 7
Kolkata Knight Riders have found renewed confidence following impressive victories against the Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab, and now face Mumbai Indians with high spirits at home.
Gautam Gambhir and Jacques Kallis each scored half-centuries during these matches for Kolkata; on the other hand, Mumbai Indians have struggled in this department and will need to improve if they wish to remain contenders for a play-off spot; so far Lendl Simmons and Ambati Rayudu have been their best batsmen; these duo need support from others if they wish to remain competitive.
RV Uthappa led his top order batsmen at Eden Gardens Stadium to victory, scoring 80 runs off 52 balls for KKR to win their match and claim man of the match honors.
Match 8
Mumbai Indians finally broke through against Kolkata Knight Riders with an emphatic win at Wankhede Stadium to open up their account this season and establish their dominance against them once more. South African batsman Ryan Rickelton led MI to victory by remaining unbeaten on 62 off 41 deliveries at Wankhede.
Rohit Sharma of MI blasted an unbeaten 98 off 65 balls, featuring 12 boundaries and four sixes to help propel his side to a daunting total of 168/3 in their initial innings. Morne Morkel (2/18) quickly reduced that total as Aaron Finch top-edged one to deep square leg before Ambati Rayudu was caught behind the stumps attempting a run-a-ball strategy.
Sunil Narine was another disappointment for KKR, conceding 28 runs over three overs without taking a wicket and failing to set up the momentum needed to score runs in his three over spell.
Suryakumar Yadav came on and made up for Narine with an astonishing knock of 46 runs from 20 balls with one four and six sixes!
Match 9
Sourav Ganguly owns this team, with their official motto being “Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo.” Their color scheme features purple and gold to reflect this.
Over the years they have won multiple matches known for their flamboyant style of play.
Ishan Kishan made an extraordinary half-century off just 17 balls, including five sixes. Unfortunately, Kuldeep Yadav bowled him before reaching 100 runs.
Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya stood out among MI’s bowlers by taking two wickets each, helping limit KKR’s score to only 108 runs after only 18.1 overs of play – their lowest total allowed this season of IPL! MI maintained their slim lead on points table following this victory.
