Windies fans will be hoping that two white-ball matches at Sabina Park can give the struggling Caribbean side a fresh start, however another crushing defeat against Australia won’t instill much confidence amongst Windies supporters.
Cameron Green and Josh Inglis’ half centuries helped Australia secure victory against West Indies, completing a 5-0 series sweep in the Australian men‚Äôs Cricket Team vs West Indies Cricket Team Match Scorecard.

T20I
The T20 International (commonly referred to as T20I) is an exciting form of cricket in which teams play an innings against one another over twenty “overs.”
This form has quickly become one of the staples in domestic leagues worldwide and allows audiences to experience all that cricket offers on an international stage while watching their favorite players compete head on.
Australia men’s team defeated West Indies five-match T20I series, winning their seventh T20I match of 2016 and retaining Frank Worrell Trophy for five consecutive seasons.
Australia recorded their heaviest white-ball series win ever against Caribbean sides – eight total series victories over them!
Cameron Green and Josh Inglis both reached half centuries as Australia totalled 205 runs; Sherfane Rutherford contributed with 31 runs off 15 balls.
Australia hit 64 sixes during this series, shattering their own record and besting previous bests of 50 and 57 sixes. Their batsmen also proved formidable during death overs, which prevented Windies from reaching defendable totals and led to an impressive 5-0 series win for Australia.
T20I matches are played between international cricket teams governed by the International Cricket Council. Since its inaugural match was played in 2005, T20I matches have become a standard part of domestic leagues such as Indian Premier League (IPL).
They’ve also proven popular as part of international tournaments; T20I has garnered considerable popularity among younger generations who often consider this form of the game the fastest form of play.
In June and July 2025, Australia’s men’s cricket team traveled to the West Indies on tour. This included three Test matches and five Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
Australia secured a 3-0 victory in Test matches while T20I matches were played across various neutral grounds on neutral grounds across the island.
They met again for another two-match T20I series in Sydney later that month starting October 10th with first match slated for 10 October and second on 13 October respectively.
ODI
One Day Internationals (ODIs) are cricket matches between two eleven-player teams of eleven each that last up to seven hours each, featuring limited overs formats with up to 100 balls being used during play.
An ODI is the highest form of limited overs cricket, making the games between teams with ODI status some of the most important events in world cricket.
These matches are overseen by the International Cricket Council (ICC), which determines which teams qualify and maintains rankings of these teams, batsmen, and bowlers within this format.
ODI cricket was the first major sporting event whose rules were standardised and its matches broadcast live, featuring uniformed players with white balls.
Additionally, this format marked the introduction of many features that have become fixtures in modern cricket such as mandatory powerplays, fielding restrictions and showing three distinct powerplay fields on modern scorecards.
Australia won the series 3-0 with an emphatic win on Saturday AEST in St Kitts. While the West Indies suffered their third successive series defeat, there were signs of hope from Shai Hope and Rovman Powell to spark hope within them and help restore some morale; nonetheless they remain mired in rebuilding mode which requires patience as well as mental adjustments to restore their form.
Test
ABC Sport and SEN will broadcast every ball of Australia’s Test tour to the West Indies, including three ODIs and an ICC World Twenty-20 matchup against India, beginning December 3rd – available to view on Foxtel, Kayo and Disney+ services.
West Indies fans have grown disgruntled following their triumphant Gabba win and have suffered through four consecutive home matches lost this season, losing all four at their own venue.
A devastating South African defeat coupled with key player departures such as Chris Gayle has only compounded this discontent amongst fans further.
West Indies faces a formidable task in trying to regain their form and dominance against an Australian side that has its own issues.
Marnus Labuschagne was dropped following a run of poor performances, creating new-look top order. Jomel Warrican will serve as vice-captain of this series and has included young Jamaican power hitter Brandon King alongside 23-year-old Barbadian fast bowler Kevlon Anderson and Vincentian spinner Johann Layne for this match – Rovman Powell and Shimron Hetmyer could all debutants who could help boost West Indies bat stocks a great deal more effectively.
ICC World Cup
The ICC World Cup is one of the world’s premier sporting events, providing an opportunity for players to showcase their talent and achieve global prominence.
However, it can also test players’ resilience. Men in Maroon had an underwhelming 2025 and will need to improve before next year’s tournament begins if they wish to qualify automatically; as they have already fallen out of automatic qualification and must go through qualifiers instead.
The West Indies have proven themselves among the most successful teams at the ICC World Cup, winning two championships (1975 and 1979 when it was known as Prudential Cup) as well as finishing as runners-up three times and once winning the ICC Champions Trophy (2004). Their 107 World Cup matches make them one of the most prolific competitors.
Shimron Hetmyer and Roston Chase lead their strong lineup with batsmen such as Shimron Hetmyer and Roston Chase being strong pillars, and excellent young bowlers such as Kemar Roach being outstanding prospects.
However, recent poor form has left fans dissatisfied; especially following Australia’s crushing win in Bridgetown recently. For this to change quickly again for them it must perform in their day-night Tests held here to keep fans engaged with cricket once more.
Windies won the toss and elected to field in Australia’s opening match of the tournament, taking advantage of Australia’s batsmen struggling against Andy Roberts and Keith Boyce-led Windie attack to score 291/8 in their first innings.
Australia struggled in response, losing several wickets early and never looking likely of reaching their target score of 321/8 in their reply innings.
To accommodate for their five-match T20 series against West Indies, CSA must make space in their domestic fixture list for this T20 series. However, discussions have already started between the West Indies Cricket Board (CWI) and CSA on when and how many warm-up games should take place prior to their arrival on February 3 – with one match bringing forward support period start date from January 31 instead of February 3.
It also must decide where two warm-up matches will be played, given they likely will not take place at Paarl/Newlands or Buffalo Park/East London for two warm up matches prior to starting off their support period on January 31.
