The Chennai Super Kings (CSK), founded in 1997, are an Indian Premier League cricket team based out of Chennai in Tamil Nadu and play their home matches at MA Chidambaram Stadium. This context is crucial when evaluating chennai super kings vs punjab kings standings, as home conditions often influence their performance.

Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh got PBKS off the mark with some explosive boundaries early in the innings, before Ferguson turned back the clock with one final delivery from his 18th over by dismissing left-hander Imad Wasim for 17 runs to earn some redemption from earlier dismissals of left-hander Udayan Ganesan.

CSK vs PBKS

CSK and PBKS: An Intense Rivalry

Few rivalries can rival this one for intensity within the Indian Premier League, pitting two perennial powerhouses against an unpredictable team with plenty of drama, excitement and memories in store.

CSK remain strong contenders in the points table despite losing to Mumbai in their most recent match, and will gain confidence from MS Dhoni’s return as they aim to return to the top four of IPL.

A victory against Punjab would provide them with a big boost towards reaching playoff contention.

Priyansh Arya and Shreyas Iyer have both been impressive this season, so both will look to continue their good form against the Super Kings.

A big partnership is essential to ensure victory for the visitors; therefore the ability of both batters to balance aggression with caution will be critical for success.

Though teams that bat first have won 60% of matches at Chepauk, CSK should take advantage of Noor and Jadeja’s experience to exploit Chepauk’s conditions and finisher MS Dhoni’s finishing prowess to take home advantage against PBKS who has shown tremendous batting performances this season.

1st Match

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will host Punjab Kings (PBKS) at MA Chidambaram Stadium for Match 49 of IPL 2025, hoping to avoid defeat that would end their chances of making playoffs while remaining competitive on their table.

MS Dhoni leads CSK as they look for ways to avoid going out early while remaining alive at this year’s tournament.

At MA Chidambaram Stadium, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl first. However, CSK found their innings somewhat two-paced on this two-paced surface; thus it will be fascinating to witness whether their target of 191 can be achieved on such conditions.

After an initially slow start to their innings, Ravindra Jadeja took an aggressive tack in the final over by hitting Azmatullah Omarzai for fours off both his first and second balls – giving Iyer room for risk by handing him the over.

Dewald Brevis took an outstanding boundary line catch to leave PBKS needing six off 12 balls, leaving Ravindra Shahid to face six overs from 12 balls before mistiming a lofted shot that gave Jadeja the opportunity to take one of the greatest catches of the year – prompting cheers across the stadium when Jadeja was out for 17 off 12 balls.

2nd Match

Shreyas Iyer’s Punjab Kings will look to put some urgency into their performances as the tournament reaches its closing stage; but they won’t find that easy against a CSK side that has yet to win at home this season.

CSK have already exhausted most of their bench strength this season and may look to give uncapped players like Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis playing time while providing Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran with rest days.

Dhoni-led outfit also might consider offering spinners like Azmatullah Omarzai or Xavier Bartlett an opportunity as well.

Prabhsimran Singh will be essential to PBKS’ chances of reaching the top four this season. His right-handed bat has shown promising signs this year and he will look to build on his impressive 83 against KKR in their match this Thursday.

On the bowling front, much will depend on Glenn Maxwell, who is recovering from a broken finger and expected to return for this match. In his absence, spinners such as Navdeep Saini and Noor Ahmed will play key roles for PBKS.

3rd Match

CSK and PBKS have faced off 30 times in IPL history, and CSK have won 16 matches while losing 15. This rivalry has been one of the most thrilling and captivating contests to grace Indian cricket history; featuring big hits and impressive bowling from both franchises alike. Both franchises also boast some of the greatest cricketers to have graced Indian cricket history.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK), established in 2008, are an Indian Premier League (IPL) Twenty20 cricket franchise based out of Chennai. One of eight debut IPL teams owned by Dhoni Entertainment and Sports Management company, they have won five IPL titles – making them joint most successful franchise in its history – appearing in 10 finals, and twice winning Champions League Twenty20 competition.

CSK vs PBKS clashes are always worth watching, thanks to MS Dhoni and Ravichandran Ashwin’s consistently brilliant performances. We will review key stats and highlights from their historical rivalry as well as explore which standout players could potentially impact this upcoming matchup.

4th Match

Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh got PBKS off to a spectacular start as they raced to 44/0 in just 4.3 overs, thanks to Arya hitting two fours while Prabhsimran hit an explosive reverse sweep for four and sixes off Prabhsimran’s reverse sweep – taking them from 7/1 up to 88/1 with 110 still needed to chase.

Shreyas Iyer’s gamble of handing the ball over to leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal backfired spectacularly as Chahal bowled a short delivery outside off-stump that Ayush Mhatre mistimed and Ravindra Jadeja took an easy catch at long-on to dismiss him as well as the openers.

Azmatullah Omarzai continues to concede runs at the other end. He gave up 14 runs in his third over. Dewald Brevis and Sam Curran have formed an aggressive partnership.

WICKET!

An important wicket for PBKS as they need 11 off 12 balls. Ayush Mhatre lofted off a short delivery and was caught at long-on by Shreyas Iyer.

5th Match

Indian Premier League matches are famously memorable sporting rivalries. One such contest between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings stands out, as this battle has taken place 30 times with CSK winning 16 times outright. Their match-up has provided some epic moments – this upcoming battle could add even more!

CSK will be given an added boost by MS Dhoni’s return to their starting lineup, after missing three matches with injury. He is expected to feature against Punjab.

Priyansh Arya got the PBKS off to an excellent start with his outstanding innings, hitting five fours and one six in 19 balls before Khaleel Ahmed finally managed to remove him.

Prabhsimran Singh came in and looked in great form, smashing some huge boundaries while keeping himself well within his boundaries. He reached his fifty in just 31 balls!

Shreyas Iyer displayed brilliant fielding skills when he caught Curran in midair for a stunning six over long-on’s left and secured the wicket – saving Curran from hitting out for six in an otherwise difficult situation and saving runs for his team in the process! It was an outstanding catch which also saved an important run from being scored off another player on that delivery run by Iyer.
