England vs India

Following an intense victory at Headingley and an equally tight draw at Old Trafford, England and India appeared poised to hammer out their differences in the final Test matchup at Old Trafford. But after Jasprit Bumrah suffered an injury which prevented him from playing, England were denied their first series win since 2018 thanks to Shubman Gill’s masterful bating performance preventing an England series win.

Edgbaston witnessed an extraordinary day, not just because England were handed a record deficit to chase down. For a while it looked as though India would run away with the series before England’s batsmen made their presence felt.

KL Rahul’s exquisite 78 propelled India to 90-2 by the close of play, sparking a fightback that culminated with rain forcing play to stop with India still leading at 271-6.

On Monday morning, Overton brought back England into contention as India were given an uncomfortable time by him before rain began falling again. Overton was particularly impressive, taking India by surprise by pulling Krishna’s opening ball for four and inside-edging his next delivery past fine leg to an inside edge boundary.

Shubman Gill won the day, though, with an outstanding display of controlled aggression that we have come to expect of him in white-ball cricket. He demonstrated his understanding of what needed to be done – leaving judiciously, aiming well, and not fearing error – by scoring two sixes and four fours off Josh Tongue before adding four fours from Liam Dawson and sixes against Brydon Carse.

England’s bowlers struggled to create any pressure on a flat pitch, offering up wayward lines and inconsistent lengths which gave Indian batters regular scoring opportunities. Yet their seamers did show some signs of strength, with Jofra Archer bowling some quick deliveries while Liam Dawson provided some encouraging deliveries himself.

Although England have struggled in limited-over formats, they possess enough talent and quality to progress all the way in this series. From match-winning batters and bowlers, to promising youngster players like Jadeja. While their recent form in Tests has been inconsistent, England will hope that with this fifth and final Test beginning on Wednesday their performances can become more consistent. India are similarly talented; however they appear ill at ease playing against English conditions; that needs to change for them!

India vs England

India-England rivalry has played a pivotal role in shaping cricket history, producing some of its greatest matches between these teams. Test matches remain at the heart of it all; however ODIs and Twenty20s also offer plenty of actionful moments between both nations.

With cricket evolving through new formats like Twenty20s and ODIs, their tale remains a living historical document of cricket’s most memorable moments from decades past and present.

England and India played out a thrilling five-Test series that produced some truly remarkable individual and team performances, belying predictions by pundits and former players who had anticipated an easy home victory for England – and perhaps a clean sweep – without incident.

India’s rise to global powerhouse status was propelled in large part by their ability to dominate on English soil. Their 2-0 series win under Kapil Dev was the first time an Asian team had won on English soil and signalled their arrival as a more potent force capable of matching England head on.

Another milestone victory came two decades later with Zaheer Khan leading pace bowling charge as India showed that they no longer relied solely on spinners for success.

As each match grew increasingly exciting, Old Trafford played host to an unforgettable final day that culminated a riveting series – complete with several key flashpoint encounters that left people battered from playing. Battered bodies testified to what was undoubtedly Britain’s finest contest since 2005 Ashes.

England’s bowlers rose to the challenge under pressure to produce an exciting series climax that ended with both teams leaving plenty of work ahead of them heading into an ODI at The Oval on Wednesday. Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma led by England batsmen were held back from scoring beyond 377 and 278 runs respectively despite having opportunities to put themselves ahead early.

Ben Duckett’s 149 ensured England stayed in contention. It resulted in a draw, leaving both sides with plenty of work ahead as they prepare to face each other during another phase of rivalry starting off at The Oval on Wednesday.
