Rajasthan Royals (RR) vs Gujarat Titans (GT)

RR came into this game off three consecutive losses and were in danger of missing out on a playoff berth. To combat Jaipur’s low bounce and keep pace with their opponent’s bowlers, Maheesh Theekshana was brought in from their last match-up as Maheesh’s low bounce ball could help ensure a success batting performance against them. Riyan Parag won the toss and elected to field first.

Shimron Hetmyer of GT’s made an unbeaten 56 off 26 balls to help his side post an impressive total of 196/3, while Jos Buttler and Yuzvendra Chahal both claimed two wickets each to restrict the Titans to a three-wicket victory in their IPL 2023 meeting.

RR’s performance in this match was truly astounding, highlighted by head coach Rahul Dravid getting out of his wheelchair to applaud Suryavanshi who scored an unbelievable hundred off only 25 balls! It was truly memorable.

RR vs GT head-to-head record

Since 2022 when the Titans joined the IPL tournament, both sides have met eight times in Indian Premier League matches, and each team has won six matches against one another with one being abandoned without result.

On their most recent meeting at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on April 2, Yuzvendra Chahal took three wickets off Jos Buttler for Royals while Yuzvendra Chahal captured three wickets off Hetmyer for Titans.

RR vs GT history

RR-GT represents two franchises with immediate and significant impacts; Royals first joined the Indian Premier League in 2008, winning it soon thereafter; GT joined two years later but also made a huge statement upon entry.

Since GT’s entry into the IPL, these teams have met eight times and GT has emerged victorious on six of those occasions – most recently in IPL 2024 when GT triumphed via a last ball thriller win against RR.

Shubman Gill’s 76 powered GT to victory after they had previously struggled to post 196/3 after struggling with their top and middle order.

Both teams experienced nerves during this match as it seemed as though RR may collapse at any moment; but an outstanding innings from Jos Buttler saved RR from this fateful moment.

Titans struggled to string together runs but were saved by Shimron Hetmyer who scored an unbeaten 56 off 26 balls, winning him Man of the Match honors.

Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag kept up their run-rate in response but it wasn’t enough as they lost by three wickets.

Rahul Dravid, Rajasthan Royals head coach, came out from his wheelchair to applaud Suryavanshi’s impressive 100 off just 25 balls – his second fastest ton ever and one that left many in Jaipur speechless – marking an unforgettable performance by an emerging star who is fast becoming beloved among his supporters. It summed up this exceptional game.

RR vs GT in IPL

RR and GT are among the fiercest rivals of each other in IPL cricket, dating back to when GT joined as a new franchise in 2022.

Since then, they have competed against one another eight times with each team winning six times; their rivalry being further amplified when former RR players such as Rahul Tewatia, David Miller, Prasidh Krishna and Jos Buttler now play for GT instead of their former side RR.

Rajasthan Royals successfully chased down Gujarat Titans’ daunting 210-run target at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur within 15.5 overs, setting an IPL record by becoming the fastest team ever to chase 200+ totals successfully against GT. This mark also represents one of the highest totals ever reached against them successfully.

The Royals openers Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal got off to an explosive start, as Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal took no time in striking through Titans bowlers for an early strike rate. 14-year-old Suryavanshi made an incredible 101 run knock in just 68 balls with seven fours and 11 sixes during his innings.

Jaiswal proved himself equally impressive as he provided support at the other end. He went not out off 48 balls, hitting five sixes. This performance earned him Player of the Match honors for RR.

Maheesh Theekshana made an early breakthrough for GT, dismissing Sai Sudharsan for 39. However, Shubman Gill continued his assault from the other end and scored an amazing 84 runs off 29 balls before Rashid Khan trapped him behind the stumps with a low full toss delivery and bowled him.

Riyan Parag and Shirron Hetmyer helped the Royals reach their target with only three balls remaining, breaking an IPL cricket record by scoring more runs than ever before against GT. Furthermore, this total marked GT’s highest total ever in IPL cricket.
