India won the first ODI

India and England’s first One Day International was won by Rohit Sharma’s side in Nagpur by four wickets to claim an early advantage in the three-match series. Shubman Gill led their charge, smashing an exceptional 79 in their chase while Axar Patel chipped in with 52 runs for support. This match took place at Vidharbha Cricket Association Stadium.

VCA Stadium features a slow pitch with good bounce and pace that provided ideal conditions for India to reach their target of 384.4 overs with ease. Under debutant Harshit Rana and Ravindra Jadeja’s leadership, their bowlers held off all English batsmen throughout their innings innings.

Even after losing Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal quickly, India still made steady progress towards their target. Additionally, Shreyas Iyer led them with an outstanding counterattacking innings of 59 not out.

However, India were denied victory as England’s lower order held firm to prevent India from winning the match. Jos Buttler and Jacob Bethell helped England post a respectable total, yet their bowlers couldn’t capitalize on an impressive start by exploiting it further.

Now that the series has reached a stalemate of 1-1, both teams will aim to secure victory in the next one-day international (ODI), scheduled for Cuttack on 9 February. Both sides have shown great promise in this format and hope that their results can return on track after some disappointing outings this season. Hopefully, it will prove more captivating than its predecessor! India won the second ODI

India defeated England in their second ODI match at Cuttack to take an unassailable 2-0 advantage in the series. Rohit Sharma scored an outstanding century as they triumphed by four wickets at Barabati Stadium – an indication that Rohit Sharma is ready to lead his side into Champions Trophy 2019.

Rohit and Shubman Gill started off brilliantly for India in their opening innings and raced through 48 runs in six overs – nearly reaching their target until play was suspended due to a floodlight tower malfunction.

As soon as England returned, their middle order were in disarray and bowlers struggled to contain batsmen; while their batting line-up looked disjointed. Even Joe Root’s 69 from 72 balls couldn’t push England past 300 and they ended up chasing an unachievable target of 305.

Shubman eventually succumbed to pressure from Iyer for 60 off 61 balls but not before adding an invaluable 71-run stand with him. India’s middle order have played an instrumental role in this series and it will be imperative they carry this momentum into the Champions Trophy.

Axar Patel made his Champions Trophy debut as KL Rahul was absent due to injury, and immediately struck back against Adil Rashid for a boundary. Axar used his right-handed batsmanship to hit it hard to drive it past Adil for another boundary and now stands on 24 from 29 balls played so far in this tournament. He should play an integral part for India at this tournament.

Rohit was next in line for a big total, and Overton bowled him an equally full delivery that proved difficult for Rohit to time correctly, landing instead at midwicket where Salt quickly took an easy catch.

Jos Buttler then entered and was given a lifeline by Rahul when he threw down the stumps in frustration, followed by another lifeline from an umpire who ruled him out of an lbw appeal (although that decision wasn’t upheld after review), although had the snickometer registered a spike, things may have gone differently.

India won the third ODI

India’s batsmen rallied to help their hosts post an impressive 356 run first innings total, led by Shubman Gill’s brilliant 112 from just 102 balls, Virat Kohli (52) and Shreyas Iyer (78). England were all out for just 214 after struggling against India’s bowlers during their second innings innings – only Gus Atkinson managed half-centuries.

After losing both openers, England struggled to post a respectable total against Indian spinners and found themselves caught out by maiden overs allowing the bowlers to pick up wickets and restrict scoring. Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana performed admirably for England while KL Rahul scored 56 runs before the break for India.

Ben Duckett and Phil Salt began the second innings with an optimistic approach, yet quickly faltered after being dismissed by spinners. Subsequently, all other batsmen faltered as well resulting in another innings collapse.

Skipper Eoin Morgan attempted to rally the innings, but was quickly caught by Rohit Sharma at short midwicket for an unbeaten 67 run-a-ball innings. Jos Buttler then missed a straight one and got out for a run-a-ball 71 score.

Axar Patel completed India’s impressive 142-run win by taking Atkinson’s wicket, capping off their convincing innings performance and making sure of a clean sweep before Champions Trophy begins in July.

Ahmedabad weather conditions are ideal for cricket: no chance of rain and temperatures of 31 degrees Celsius with humidity at 38%; pitch is expected to be dry with good batting surfaces as well as some spin. Both teams will strive for series victory; the winner will secure their place in the final. It promises to be an exciting contest!

India won the fourth ODI

The fourth ODI between India and England was an exciting rain-hit thriller that ended with India prevailing. Held on 25 October at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, India took an early lead thanks to Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni’s brilliant first innings 131-run partnership for India that helped them set an impressive total of 220 runs in their first innings innings. England struggled in response: Jonathan Trott and Kevin Pietersen fell cheaply before Tim Bresnan made an admirable effort at the back end to keep his team competitive in pursuit of victory.

However, the tourists were unable to maintain their momentum and were eventually all out for 206 in 42 overs – only saving themselves by the efforts of India’s spinners – Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami both picked up two wickets each to ensure England were prevented from running away with the match.

Rain interrupted play after 33rd over, forcing it into a Duckworth-Lewis tie that will resume Thursday at Nagpur Cricket Association Stadium. India are leading this series 4-1, but will hope for their second successive win when they meet up again for three ODI matches starting February 2025.

Buttler should make his return for England’s ODI series after being rested during their T20 leg of their tour, but England still appear unsure how best to cope with uneven bounce in this format since being dethroned as World Champions. Salt and Duckett managed the uneven bounce well to form an opening stand but both fell to Varun Chakravarthy and Jadeja respectively swiping across. Root seemed more composed as he made 66 from just 73 balls before eventually dismissing Munaf with a direct hit from Raina and ran out of partners as England collapsed to 206 all out.
