History

Pakistan and Australia’s history in cricket has been fascinating, producing some of its most thrilling moments over decades.

Following independence for Pakistan in 1947 and swift cricket development thereafter – including being granted Test match status by Lord’s Imperial Cricket Conference upon recommendation by India – their cricket scene quickly developed rapidly thereafter.

Pakistan was on an early winning streak in World T20 cricket and finished first place in Group D of 2012. But their next matches saw them defeated by New Zealand and South Africa; consequently they finished in second place overall.

Australia took an impressive three wins out of four matches in their ODI series against Pakistan; however, Pakistan won the fourth match by one wicket, giving them victory despite some controversy; however, when investigated further by ICC they found no evidence to warrant further action being taken against either team.

Saim Ayub attempted to hook a ball but missed, sending it through to wicketkeeper Owais Shah who caught it without incident. Umpires requested a replay but this decision was reversed as neither his glove or chest were touched by it.

Pakistan celebrated their victory with joy. It had been two decades since their last ODI win on Australian soil!

On Sunday, however, Test stars Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood won’t participate in the match to rest and prepare for their Border-Gavaskar Trophy challenge in Perth – which they still feel confident will take them through to the final.

After winning the toss, Australia decided to bat first. Although they lost some early wickets, Australia was still able to post 298/7 runs in 50 overs despite some early wickets falling – leaving Pakistan struggling to keep up. Australia went on to secure victory courtesy of their superior bowling performance and ultimately tied up this match at 4-4.

Pakistan Champions made an auspicious start in their chase, scoring five runs off Brett Lee in their initial over. Sharjeel Khan and Sohaib Maqsood held steady, taking singles off most deliveries while Nathan Coulter-Nile bowled a maiden over, missing both balls but then hitting consecutive boundaries through deep extra cover and fine leg respectively for one boundary in this over.

Sharjeel Khan hit two fours off consecutive balls to open off his second over and then three sixes over long-on and long-off as the Pakistan Champions reached 45 without loss after four overs.

Chris Lynn was dismissed for four balls without scoring by Sohail Tanvir in the final over. Shortly afterwards, Ben Dunk was caught by Aamer Yamin at short mid-wicket to give Pakistan Champions their first wicket; but they quickly bounced back as Sharjeel Khan hit another four-ball boundary over long off and Sohaib Maqsood hit an effective drive into leg slip for three runs to restore their momentum.
