PBKS vs MI
The PBKS are a professional Twenty20 cricket team based in New Chandigarh, Punjab India. Competing in the Indian Premier League and owned by Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta and Karan Paul; home matches take place at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium with BCCI providing oversight.
Kings XI Punjab entered this season’s IPL with ambitions of winning it all and signed several big players at auction to form a formidable squad.
Unfortunately, however, their early struggles proved fruitless with only two wins coming through six matches played and key players like Brett Lee and Shaun Marsh not available as often as expected.
However, they quickly found their stride and won nine of their next ten matches to reach the semi-finals. When facing Chennai Super Kings in their semi-final clash, they nearly defeated them but narrowly lost out after David Miller hit one of his best innings ever seen at an IPL tournament.
However, despite losing the final, PBKS was highly competitive, finishing sixth with 19 points and 9 wins. Thanks to their top order and bowlers, PBKS is on track for making a comeback in 2025 IPL season.
At the second qualifier round, they defeated Delhi Capitals to secure their spot in the final, which will pit them against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Their captain Shreyas Iyer has led three different teams into IPL finals – making him only the second captain ever.
Shreyas Iyer led his team to victory against RCB with an outstanding batting display, hitting 132 off 69 balls – which included 14 fours and seven sixes – off just 69 deliveries with 14 fours and 7 sixes! KL Rahul provided support by joining in a 107-run partnership that anchored their innings together.
Even when their wickets fell early on, Iyer ensured his side met their target of 205 with ease; ultimately they reached 206/3 in 20 overs.
Against MI, the PBKS will be without their captain and leading run scorer Ravichandran Ashwin; therefore they have decided to select an amalgam of experienced and young players in his place.
The PBKS will look to improve on their results from previous seasons, where they only managed four wins total.
They will rely heavily on experienced campaigners as guides during this pivotal game; both sides’ batting lineups will largely mirror one another.
Focus will be put on the middle-order, which has struggled for runs in previous matches. Both sides appear evenly matched on paper; hence we expect an exciting match at MYS.
