India will take on Sri Lanka, who have seen a strong comeback to ODI cricket over recent matches. Their hosts won both of their previous ODIs by an innings and 78 runs before losing one by five wickets; currently sitting second in rankings behind South Africa but looking to secure entry into Champions Trophy 2025 with improved performances.

Rohit Sharma will return to India’s ODI fold after taking time off following T20 World Cup final, being joined by opener Shubman Gill, appointed vice captain. Together they’ll look to improve India’s fortunes ahead of next year’s Champions Trophy tournament.

Some key players from the squad that beat Zimbabwe have been kept for the Sri Lanka tour, including senior stars Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel. Ravindra Jadeja and Yuzvendra Chahal, however, were left off.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will return after being rested from the T20 World Cup final, hoping to showcase their respective skills as they look to surpass 11,000 ODI runs – surpassing Rahul Dravid’s record by doing so. India had only played six ODIs prior to starting this tournament so this series will serve as an invaluable training ground before the Champions Trophy begins on February 3rd.

India vs Sri Lanka T20I Series

Sri Lanka will be without key players Nuwan Thushara and Dushmantha Chameera due to injury issues preventing them from competing in this T20I series.

Jasprit Bumrah will provide the visitors with an extra edge when he returns after recovering from back injury, adding extra zest to their bowling attack. The three-match T20I series begins on 27 July in Pallekele before moving on to Colombo where all matches will be broadcast live by Sony Sports Network India.

India vs Sri Lanka Test Series

India and Sri Lanka’s tour in July and August started off with three Test matches, starting with India dominating Sri Lanka 3-0. Pre-series predictions predicted the hosts would dominate, yet Sri Lanka showed tremendous determination and went unbeaten throughout with one loss at Mumbai due to poor batsmanship efforts and subpar bowling attacks.

India set an impressive total of 537 for 8 declared in their second match, and while they were unable to match this total in their initial innings, India looked well on their way to a crushing win. Sanath Jayasuriya produced some memorable scores; including breaking records such as fourth highest fourth innings score by visiting team in India and his maiden triple century; however most Sri Lanka batsmen struggled under India’s potency attack and pressure.

Sri Lanka were not dismayed and managed to win the third Test in dramatic fashion. Their tourists fell behind early, falling to 34 for 3 in their chase before Roy Dias and Duleep Mendis collaborated for a 216-run stand with Duleep Mendis to save it and earn Sri Lanka a well-earned victory of one wicket over India. While several Indian players contributed well, Virat Kohli stood out with an outstanding double hundred which saw him surpass Kapil Dev’s wicket total for Test matches by one wicket!

Rohit was supported by an array of excellent performers; Vihari, Dhawan and Kohli all scored fifty runs; Pant and Jadeja continued their upward momentum; Ravi Bishnoi, Washington Sundar, Mohd Siraj and Axar Patel made an impactful statement as well.
