West Indies vs Australia

Australia finished their tour of the West Indies with an emphatic three-wicket win in St Kitts’ fifth and final T20I to complete an unbeaten series sweep, as reflected in the west indies cricket team vs australian men‚Äôs cricket team match scorecard.

They won the toss and elected to bowl first, restricting hosts’ to 170 while applying pressure. Shai Hope and Roston Chase both reached half-centuries while Ben Dwarshuis took four wickets during this contest – all while keeping West Indian batsmen under check with four wickets of his own in this match!

Windies struggled in response, being dismissed for only 171 runs despite efforts from Shimron Hetmyer (52) off 31 balls and Brandon King (61).

They eventually reached a respectable total with regular wickets falling before eventually succumbing with nine balls left as Australia reached their target with half centuries from Cameron Green and Mitchell Owen contributing towards reaching it.

Australia won their seventh of eight matches this year to complete a clean sweep and retain the Frank Worrell Trophy, becoming the only country ever to do so.

Australia also became the leader of T20I series winning, surpassing every other nation by eight victories over time.

Windies coach Stuart Law will hope that their latest loss creates momentum towards something better. However, two more Caribbean matches remain on their schedule, which would hardly inspire confidence amongst fans or cricketing communities in general.

West Indies cricket has undergone a profound reconstruction since the departures of key figures like Chris Gayle, Darren Bravo and Jason Holder.

Though there have been encouraging signs so far, such a crushing defeat only adds fuel to discontentment among supporters across the island nation.

Even in their current poor form, the Windies possess enough resources to improve and it would be reasonable to expect at least one draw in one of Australia’s day-night Tests in Bridgetown. A mental reset may help in turning around their fortunes but luck must also play its part.

Marnus Labuschagne has been shown little mercy by the selectors, being dropped for the first time ever from his career team.

Kemar Roach may miss his scheduled match due to an ankle injury during training while Jomel Warrican could also be given consideration for recall. Roston Chase did not reveal his West Indies XI, but it is likely Kraigg Brathwaite will remain out.

He was dropped after poor performances in previous series and could even completely miss out if their batsman struggle further. The selectors are expected to place their faith in fast-medium bowlers like Jason Holder and Kesrick Williams, with Nathan Lyon being considered an outsider.

It remains uncertain whether Pat Cummins will return after missing the previous series due to shoulder injury. The selection committee may also consider including a second spinner; their choice will depend on how well Sabina Park pitches respond with pink Dukes balls; if fast and dry surfaces prevail, an all-out attack may be chosen instead of going with full strength attack.

Australia vs West Indies T20 Series

Australia was victorious in a five-match white-ball series against West Indies in 2019, with each member of their 15-man squad contributing.

Australia hit 64 sixes during this tour – more than any team had managed before them and exceeding their previous best of 50 and 57 sixes from 2010 and 2024 T20 World Cup series held there respectively.

Australia’s batsmen have been the driving force in all five T20 matches against West Indies so far and their superiority in death overs was key to an emphatic 5-0 clean sweep in this series.

Australia took 15 wickets across all five final five overs matches limiting West Indies from reaching defendable totals before their innings closed out.

Shimron Hetmyer led off for the Windies with 52 off 31 balls at Warner Park in St Kitts and Nevis but Australia were too good for them in St Kitts and Nevis.

Josh Inglis and Cameron Green shared an outstanding fifth-wicket stand of 63 runs that put Australia firmly in control, Tim David struck three sixes in 30 balls before finishing unbeaten on 28 – all the while Australia eventually triumphed by three wickets with three overs still available to spare.

Australia used this series as an audition for their 2019 T20 World Cup squad and two newcomers were blooded: Matt Kuhnemann and Mitch Owen both scored half centuries in their respective final matches, giving selectors plenty of thinking time.

While Australia have enjoyed great success at recent World Cup tournaments, with Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Wade’s Nos 4-7 combination winning in 2021, their current batting order seems in transition.

Wade recently retired and joined the coaching staff while Maxwell remains uncertain for their upcoming series against South Africa due to a back injury that could sideline him for much of this summer.

Fraser-McGurk was selected in Australia’s squad to tour West Indies as something of a shock, having scored only two half centuries in international cricket and struggling for form with Melbourne Stars franchise cricket – particularly their poor show in IPL 2017.

But his form in Western Australia’s domestic one-day competition gave selectors reason to give him another shot.

And he has proved an invaluable addition, making an important impactful contribution in each game with both bat and bowler, including some late run-scoring through wickets taken late on. It would be very surprising if he were not considered for inclusion at India for T20 World Cup later this year.
